new baby mixtape
My cousin is expecting her first baby (a baby girl) in about a month. Her baby shower is April 23rd, and along with some other gifts, I wanted to make her a nice mix CD with good 'new baby' and/or 'mom songs'.
The only one I know for sure that I'm putting on there so far is -
"Baby Mama" by Fantasia Barrino
My cousin likes all kinds of stuff, so doesn't matter what genre...I just need lots of ideas.

Some Songs, And None Of You Know Me, So Hi!
Hey, I thought I'd start promoting myself a bit and found this community, which seems very lovely.
I shall browse it thoroughly soon . . . however, here is some informations about me that may, or may not, be interesting.
I record stuff which could best be described as Thematic Rock, or possibly Symphonic Rock, or some nauseating combination of the two. It's instrumental guitar-based music inspired by Pink Floyd, Dream Theater, Steve Vai and all the other artists that people like me quote as influences.
jackson electric guitar
tanglewood elfin bass
morley bad horsie 2 wah pedal
a vox valvetronix modelling amp thingy
a zoom b1 bass fx gubbins
drums on demand samples
and, very specially - a roland gr-20 guitar synth. you all need to buy one now if you haven't already. Using it is like ejaculating music out of your eyes.
I polished off a couple of songs recently - the first ones I've done that make full use of all my new kit. I'd love some opinions, be they musical or production orientated. I do my best with mixing, but my monitors are screwed, and don't allow me to properly interprety bass values and things. I intend to get all my stuff professionally mastered anyway, so listen with a kind heart, good folks.
I did these quite quickly for the recent 02 music contest, and had to compress the mp3s down in order to submit them. So they quality isn't what it should be . . . just bear in mind I'm still learning stuff about musical production.
The Prodigal - a blend of spanish guitars and things that aren't spanish guitars.
Buried In The Sand - I blindly wodged together four different pieces to make this. Part one was done a month ago. Parts 2 and 3 were recorded last year, and part 4 was recorded very hastily over the last couple of days. So it's a little . . . hasty.
love, kisses and creamy rock to you all

yay for procrastination posts
I'd become accustomed to making giant playlists that always got flipped around on my iPod. Then, someone was silly enough to say "Hey, this girl can drive" and I now have reverted back to the fabled mechanism of the compact disk. Thus, I not only have to worry about content but order as well. (And yes, I have a slight obsession with Ben Folds' music.)

Mp3 of the Week Club, pt. II
This is a follow-up to the post
I made the other day, concerning a scheme I'd dreamed up to swap and share music, when mix tapes / CDs might take too much time.
A big thank-you to everyone who responded. I can see there's interest in the idea. But, I can also see this doesn't apply to the majority of users signed up to mezclamusica
, and I wouldn't want to usurp the purpose of this group for my own. So... all you dashing boys and girls who want to take part in this thing called the 'Mp3 of the Week Club', you can now do so at a new LJ community, mp3otwclub
If you head over to the community info
page, you can read up on what's happening, join, and all the rest. There isn't much else for me to say here so - hope to see some of you around. I'll still be posting my own CD mixes (when I make them) here, of that you can have no doubt! :-)
We now return to your regular programming.

so here is the first of like seven mixes i've made since i've been here. i was briefly smitten with a woman ehere, who has since ended up dating a friend of mine. but i still have a special fondness for her, and this is the mix she inspired. i'm glad to have her in my life.

Mp3 of the Week Club?
Don't see too many posts around here, do we? Which is a shame, because this would be one of my favourite communities. Music + Computers really does = sexy. But, I'm posting now because I had... an idea
the other day... a neat way for us to get new music to each other. If you agree with me that is... this is just a proposal. I hope it stimulates.
What I'm talking about is what I would call the Mp3 of the Week Club
. Which we can have right here, with the small but compact community of music freaks we have. The process would be thus: Those who want to take part, would post a new, fresh mp3 to Mezcalmusica once a week, on an agreed day. It's a low-fi, low-effort way to share musical love when you may not have the time to make mix tapes... a way to hear something new from similar or different minds every day of the week... of the month... of the year, if there's the enthusiasm!
How does one 'post' an Mp3 here? By Yousendit.com
, as a simple answer. If you fill out the form and email the mp3 you want to share to yourself, you will be sent a link which the song can be downloaded from. Post the link here, and you have shared the Mp3 with the rest of us!
If I were making the post, I'd give the info of the artist, song name, genre, and why I'm sharing it. But that's just me.
So, that was my 'anyone interested?' post. If anyone IS interested... post back. Reply. And we'll get some kind of system sorted so folk have different days to post on. If not... I understand :) Current Mood: curious

So I was planning a road trip...
And realized, you know what, I finally own a computer with a CD burner, and I have Itunes. Why not make a mix CD?
My boyfriend broke up with me last month. This is the mix I put together when I was pissed at him and so glad we weren't together anymore.
Through With You--Maroon 5
Your Eyes Open--Keane
Barely Breathing--Duncan Sheik
Red Light Fever--Liz Phair
Here Today--The Beach Boys
Don't Want You Back--Backstreet Boys
I'm Looking Through You--The Beatles
You Oughta Know--Alanis Morissette
I Will Survive--Gloria Gaynor
Bye Bye Bye--N Sync
I am aware that I have an odd range of taste in music, yes.
Whenever I start putting together a mix CD, I remember that scene in High Fidelity where John Cusack is talking about the process of creating the perfect mix tape. I like that movie.
