I'm part of a mix-CD trading community called 'Love Postal'. This month we've been given the theme Songs to Hear Before Dying. And since it's not time for the 'reveal' of the mixes over there yet, I'm sharing my mix here on Mezclamusica because I've been working on it all day and need an outlet.
Introducing my take on "Songs to Hear Before Dying" - A little thing I call 'Danse Macabre':
Two CDs, two approaches to the grave.
- The first - Pianissimo - is the soft side of the Dance of Death. These are truly the songs I'd like to imagine would soothe me to my own exit from this world. An hour of music I'd happily wish to be the last I'd hear on this earth. Some speak of what lie beyond, others generate calming soundscapes. But all are gentle and bring about the mood of an eternity of peace.
- The second - Fortissimo - brings the darkness, the violence that can sometimes accompany the end. Not all songs of death are graceful. Some speak of violent infernos, suicide, suffering and fear. An hour of tunes that reminds us of the pity of mortality. Fortissimo requires an iron constitution and a liking for the heavier side of music to see you through to the other side, the calm after the storm.
